The Platte area is noted for it's excellent walleye fishing. Other species available in the Platte area are sauger, northern pike, catfish, white bass, crappie, yellow perch, and smallmouth bass. While the greatest abundance of fish is from May to July, it is also the time of greatest fishing pressure. Spring fishing in March and April along with fall fishing in September and October produce larger fish and many times limits can be caught at these times also.
The Platte Chamber offers a big fishing tournament with $16000 worth of cash plus other prizes the last week in April each year. You can call us for more information and entry forms. For information about fishing regulations contact the South Dakota Game Fish and Parks.
